UTD Hangs With TAMU Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team played closely, but lost in straight sets to Texas A&M-Kingsville 25-19, 26-24, 25-20 at the Steinke Center Saturday afternoon.

First Set Highlights 
- The Comets (7-19, 4-11 Lone Star Conference) took an early 7-5 lead, aided by a series of errors from the Javelinas (18-7, 10-5 LSC) and a kill from Moriah Johnson.  
- TAMUK responded with a sequence that included a service ace by Madelyn Wallace, to go up 10-7. A 7-0 run, highlighted by Kendall Harrington's kill and a service ace, extended their lead to 20-13.  
- Despite a late push by UTD, including a service ace by Jane Burkhardt, the Javelinas secured the set 25-19.

Second Set Highlights 
- The Comets started strong with a block by Jada Williams and Laura See, gaining an early 5-2 lead, highlighted by Avery Pickard's service ace.  
- TAMUK responded with a 7-0 run, capitalizing on multiple service aces by Pollard to take a 9-7 advantage.  
- The teams exchanged leads, with UTD drawing even at 17-17 after a kill from Laura See.  
- In a tense finish, the Javelinas secured the set 26-24 with a block by Kerigan Baumgartner and Natalee Rush.

Third Set Highlights
- TAMUK started strong with a service ace from Monique Gonzalez, contributing to an early 2-0 lead.  
- The Comets narrowed the gap to 12-9 with a sequence of errors from the home team.
- The Javelinas extended their lead with Wallace and Pollard combining for kills, making it 9-3.  
- Despite a late rally by UTD, featuring a service ace from Pickard, TAMUK closed the match out.

The Comets hit .170 with 34 kills, four aces, 34 digs and five blocks. The Javelinas hit .299 on 44 kills, nine aces, 42 digs and five blocks.
