UTD Puts Up Tough Test against #10 WT

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team put up a tough fight against #10 West Texas A&M at the Activity Center Saturday afternoon. The visiting Lady Buffs (9-1, 3-0) came away with the Lone Star Conference victory 73-62.

The Comets (3-5, 0-2 LSC) led 16-15 at the end of the first quarter and shot 54.5 percent (6-of-11) in the second, before the WT took a 31-30 advantage into halftime.

The Lady Buffs outscored the Comets 42-32 in the second half, but the home team pressured the nationally-ranked opponents late in the game.

UTD shot 44.6 percent (25-of-56) from the floor, 7-of-23 from three-point range and 5-for-6 at the line. They also had 26 rebounds, 14 assists, 16 turnovers, three blocks and nine steals.

WT shot 43.8 percent (28-of-64) overall, 3-of-21 from three-point range and 14-of-18 at the free throw line with 43 reboudns, 10 assists, 15 turnovers, two blocks and nine steals.

UT Dallas Performances
- Junior guard Umi Otsuka led the Comets with 20 points, going 9-for-17 shooting. It was her second 20-point performance of the season.
- Freshman forward Clara Paynter scored a season-high 19 points, making a trio of three-pointers.
- Kinley Mears added seven points, three assists and a pair of steals off the bench.
- Addy Self had four points, seven rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot. She moved into fifth on UTD's career list with 52 blocks.
- Danielle Oyakhire led the Comets with eight rebounds.

West Texas A&M Performances
- Taylor Haggan was 9-of-12 shooting for 19 points and 10 rebounds.
- Abbi Holder scored 12 points off the bench.
- Karley Motscchenbacher recorded 10 points and eight rebounds.
- Randi Harding had 10 points and three assists.
- Henley West came up with 10 points and six boards.
