ALPINE, Texas - Playing for the first time in two seasons, the UT Dallas men's basketball team defeated Sul Ross State 91-80 at the Gallego Center in Lone Star Conference action Thursday night.
The Comets (1-9, 1-2 LSC) never trailed in the game and led by as many 15 in the first half before the Lobos (2-6, 0-3 LSC) would come back to trail 42-40 at the break.
UTD 57-47 with 14 minutes to play, then SRSU went on a 16-6 run to tie it up at 63-63 at the 9:17 mark. The Comets outscored the Lobos 28-17 the rest of the way, leading by as many as 12 in the final minute.Â
The Comets shot 50.9 percent (29-of-57) for the game, 10-of-27 from three-point territory and 23-of-31 at the line to go with 34 rebounds, 15 assists, 17 turnovers, three blocks and 10 steals.
The Lobos shot 41.3 percent (26-of-63) from the field - the lowest for a UTD opponent this season. They also went 8-of-24 from outside and 20-of-27 from the free throw line with 32 rebounds, 15 assists, 15 turnovers, three blocked shots and 11 steals.
UTD leads the all-time series with Sul Ross State 24-12.
UT Dallas Performances
- Sophomore guard
Jaden Jefferson led all players with 22 points, going 4-for-8 from three-point range, and grabbed five rebounds. He is averaging 25.7 points per game over three contests since making his season debut.
- Sophomore
Peyton Dulin scored a season-high 18 points with six rebounds and four steals. He leads the Comets with 28 steals this year.
- Freshman center
Hudson Goellner recorded six points, four rebounds and a pair of assists.
- Junior forward
Zach Spitzer added 11 points, five boards and three steals.
- Freshman
Jacob Smithey had eight points off the bench.

Sul Ross State Performances
- Keagan Moncrief paced the Lobos with 19 points.
- Antwonne Holmes had 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals off the bench.
- Camren Ropers recorded 12 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals.
- Chianti Clay had 11 points and nine rebounds.
