Comets Held off by Mustangs

SILVER CITY, N.M. - The UT Dallas men's basketball team lost to Western New Mexico 70-65 at Drag's Court in Lone Star Conference action Saturday afternoon.

The host Mustangs (8-2, 2-1 LSC) built a 30-20 advantage at the 3:12 mark in the first half before the Comets (1-10, 1-3 LSC) ended the period on a 10-2 run to make it 32-30 at the break.

UTD stayed within reach most of the second half, including a 52-52 tie with 10:00 remaining. WNMU led 66-62 headed into the final minute and held off the Comets' with a bucket and a pair of free throws. UTD sophomore Peyton Dulin hit a three-pointer just before time ran out to make it a five-point decision. 

The Comets shot 37.3 percent (22-for-59) from the floor, 8-of-24 from three-point range and 13-of-19 at the free throw line. They also had 31 rebounds, five assists, 12 turnovers and eight steals.

The Mustangs made 50 percent (27-of-54) of their baskets, and went 3-for-11 from outside and 13-of-20 at the line with 40 rebounds, 10 assists, 16 turnovers, five blocked shots and nine steals. 

UT Dallas Performances
- Jaden Jefferson led the Comets in scoring for the fourth straight game with 17 points. 
- Dulin finished with 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and four steals.
- Sophomore forward Bryce Potts scored a season-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
- Junior Jordan Balderaz added nine points.
- Kris White grabbed five rebounds, four offensive, off the bench.

Western New Mexico Performances
- Isaiah Broady led the Mustangs with 19 points, two blocks and two steals and grabbed six boards.
- Andre Harris had 12 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
- Cortaviaus Seales recorded 12 points, three assists and a pair of steals.

Up Next
UTD will be off until Saturday, January 3 when they host Dallas Christian in non-conference play at 3 p.m.
