RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team graced the UTD Softball Field for the first time in 2025 Saturday and ended the day with a double-header sweep of Dallas Christian. The Comets (3-1) shut out the Lady Crusaders (4-4) 6-0 in the opener and won 7-6 in the nightcap.
Game One
Freshman pitcher
Madelyn Denn (2-0) threw a four-hitter, fanning three and allowing just one walk. Kelsey Cauthorn (2-2) gave up eight hits, four earned runs and four walks with seven strikeouts in the losing effort for DCC.
With two outs in the bottom of the second, junior left fielder
Claire Pollack singled to left, followed by a walk issued to
Megan Cavazos. Sophomore
Julia Guerrero followed with a hit to center field, scoring Pollack with Cavazos crossing the plate on an error.
Senior center fielder
Cole Johnson knocked in
Sarah Olenick and
Addison Caddell with a triple to right field to give the Comets a 4-0 lead in the third.
A DCC error led to
Julia Maniscalco and Johnson scoring in the fifth for the 6-0 final.
Game Two
UTD took the second game, despite making three errors and being outhit 9-7.
Two errors in the top of the first led to a pair of runs for the Lady Crusaders. The Comets evened it up in the bottom of the frame. Olenick led off with a double, followed by a perfectly placed bunt single from
Mikayla Hoffman. Olenick scored on the front end of a double steal and Hoffman scored on a pair of wild pitches.
A five-run third inning put UTD in control of the game. Hoffman blasted a two-run home run over the fence in left center to make it 4-2 and freshman
Julia Maniscalco connected with a two-run single up the middle. Senior right fielder
Riley Westmoreland drove in
Gracelyn Taylor from third on a ground ball to give the Comets a 7-2 advantage.
Kaylee Brent hit a two run home for Dallas Christian in the top of the fifth. She drove in Lia Rojas with a base hit in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-5. Jayla Stephens drove in a run on a base hit with one out in the seventh. Denn came in for the Comets and struck out the final two batters to pick up the save.
Sophomore
Allison Koch (1-0) earned the win with six strikeouts and allowing two hits, two unearned runs and three walks over four innings. Brent (1-1) took the loss in the circle.
UT Dallas Notes
- Hoffman went 3-for-8 with a home run, double, two RBI and a stolen base on the day. She now has four career home runs.
- Olenick scored three times with a double, stolen base and a walk.
- Caddell extended her hitting streak to seven games dating back to last season. She was 2-for-3 with three walks and a two runs scored.
- Johnson recorded her third career triple.
- Maniscalco was 2-for-3 with two RBI in game two.
- Koch struck out a career-high six batters in the nightcap.
- Denn earned the win and the save with five strikeouts over 7.2 scoreless innings.
Dallas Christian Notes
- Brent was 3-for-4 with the home run and three RBI in game two.
- Lewis scored twice and had a single in two the two games.
- Laila Robins hit a double a game one.
- Stephens was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks in the nightcap.
- Nizhoni Yellow allowed four hits in 3.2 scoreless frames in game two.
