RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team took on Tabor Sunday at UTD Softball Field, splitting a double-header. The Comets (4-2) won the opener 5-4, while the Bluejays (3-5) took game two 6-3.
Game 1
First baseman Cheyenne Washington hit a two-run homer to center field in the top of the first to give Tabor an early lead. Freshman right fielder
Julia Maniscalco responded with a three-run blast over the fence in right center in the bottom of the inning.
Shortstop Darcy Gillen tripled in Lauren Roberts in the third to tie the game at 3-3, followed by a solo shot from Candince Moreno-Hairabedian to lead off the fourth, giving the Bluejays a 4-3 lead.
Freshman shortstop
Sarah Olenick led the bottom of the fifth off with a walk and
Addison Caddell singled to put two on. With two outs, senior
Gracelyn Taylor knocked in both runners with a base hit up the middle, giving the Comets the 5-4 victory.
UTD outhit Tabor 8-5 in the opener. Freshman
Madelyn Denn moved her record to 3-0 on the season, throwing three scoreless frames, allowing just a walk and a hit. Leilani Rios (0-1) took the loss in relief.
Game 2
Tabor jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the first inning off of three hits, two walks and a passed ball. Left fielder Dessa Zavala had the big hit of the inning with a two-run single.
Taylor put UTD on the board in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run to right field. The Bluejays scored again in the sixth to make it 5-2. Maniscalco singled in the bottom of the sixth, moved to third on a Taylor double and crossed the plate with a
Megan Cavazos pinch-hit sacrifice fly. Two errors and a base hit led to Tabor's final run of the contest in the seventh.
The Blujays led the Comets in hits 10-8 in game two. Madison Nelson earned the win in the circle, while
Brooke Bouldin took the loss.
UT Dallas Notes
- Taylor had a big day at the plate, hitting .800 (4-for-5) with two doubles, a home run and four RBI.Â
- Junior left fielder
Claire Pollack was also 4-for-5 at the plate and 3-for-3 in stolen bases.
- Maniscalco finished with two hits, two runs scored and three-run homer.Â
- Olenick also recorded a pair of hits on the day.
- Senior right fielder
Riley Westmoreland was 1-for-2, hit by a pitch and started a relay of throwing a runner out at home.
- Denn earned the game one victory and threw five innings, allowing three hits and an unearned run.
- Sophomore
Allison Koch struck out 10 batters in 8.1 innings Sunday.
Tabor Notes
- Washington was 4-for-6 with a home run, a double and two RBI.
- Center fielder Lauren Roberts recorded a pair of doubles, drove in a run and drew a walk.Â
- Khily Brower was 2-for-2 with a RBI and run scored in game two.
- Nelson allowed eight hits, two earned runs and struck out three over seven innings in game two.
