BELTON, Texas - The UT Dallas finished off the season sweep of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a 78-73 victory at the Mayborn Campus Center Thursday evening.
The Comets (14-8) built an 11-point lead in the first half before the Cru (13-7) cut the deficit to 31-27 at halftime.
The teams would exchange leads eight times in the second period with UTD taking the lead for good on a
Zach Spitzer three-pointer with 6:29 left.
A basket by UMHB's Ryan Pondant made the game 71-70 with 1:20 on the clock. Freshman guard
Peyton Dulin answered with a three-pointer followed by a defensive stop and a pair of free throws from junior center
Austin Page to give the Comets a 76-70 lead. Zach May hit a three-pointer with 10 seconds left to make a three-point game.
Matthew Soto iced the game for UTD on a pair of free throws with eight seconds remaining.
UTD shot a scorching 54.8 percent (17-for-31) in the second half, including 8-for-16 from three-point range.
For the game, they shot 47.5 percent (29-of-61) overall, 13-of-33 from outside and 7-of-10 at the line with 46 rebounds, 21 assists, 16 turnovers, four blocked shots and three steals.
The Cru shot 42.2 percent (27-of-64) from the floor, 7-for-19 from three-point range and 12-of-21 at the stripe with 32 boards, 15 assists, five turnovers, three blocks and eight steals.
UT Dallas Notes
- Soto led the Comets with 14 points off the bench, going 4-for-8 from three-point territory. He also had five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
- Dulin finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, a season-best seven assists, a block and a steal.
- Senior guard
Nick Donnelly made a trio of three-pointers, scoring 13 points to go with four rebounds and five assists.
- Sophomore forward
Jordan Balderaz recorded nine points and five rebounds.
- Spitzer had eight points, eight rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot.
- Page came up with six points and eight boards.
- Forwards
Rob Wade and
Bryce Potts each scored six points.

- Josh Goings led the Cru with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting. He also dished out five assists.
- May scored 13 points with three three-pointers of the bench.
- Coco Rose scored 12 points with a pair of steals.
- Eli Beard had 11 points and five rebounds.
- Pondant finished with nine points.
- Donta Coady led UMHB with six rebounds.
