Comets' Rally Just Short in Final Space Coast Contest

VIERA, Fla. - The UT Dallas softball team ended the Space Coast College Games at the USSSA Space Coast Fastpitch Stadium Wednesday with a 5-3 loss to Franklin Pierce.

The Ravens (10-7) jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first two innings. The game remained that away until the Comets (10-7) mounted a seventh-inning rally.

Evelyn Santos led off with a pinch hit single then was bunted over by Cadence Hernandez. Second baseman Mikayla Hoffman hit a blooper to left center, allowing Santos to reach third. After a strike out, Addison Caddell hit an infield single, knocking in Santos, then moved to second on an error. Senior first baseman Gracelyn Taylor singled to left, plating Hoffman to make the game 5-3. Avery Martin followed with a base hit to load the bases with two outs, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate. 

FPC brought in reliever Kennedy Morris, who induced a fly out, ending UTD's rally.

The Comets outhit the Ravens 9-7, but Franklin Pierce recorded three extra base hits with UTD coming up with only singles.

UT Dallas Notes
- Caddell and Taylor each finished going 2-for-4 with a RBI.
- Martin, Hoffman and Santos recorded a hit and a run scored each.
- Cole Johnson had a RBI and a stolen base.
- Madelyn Denn (5-3) took the loss in the circle, allowing six hits and two earned runs with a strikeout in 1.2 innings.
- Erika Fedak allowed just one base runner over 4.1 innings or relief, She struck out and gave up one hit while retiring the first six batters faced and the final seven.

Franklin Pierce Notes
- Georgia Clough (3-4) earned the win, allowing nine hits, three runs and two walks with seven strikeouts over 6.2 innings.
- Morris picked up her first save of the season.
- Andie Anderson was 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI.
- Bella Williams went 2-for-2 with two batted in, a double and a steal.
- Clough was also 1-for-3 at the plate with a double, run batted in and run scored.

Up Next
UTD will travel to Longview, Texas to face LeTourneau at 1 p.m. Saturday.
