RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's tennis team defeated Howard Payne 5-2 at the UTD Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon.

Down a player, the Comets (4-7) gave up the doubles point to the Lady Jackets (5-7) by splitting. Senior Jhastine Red Ballado and sophomore Elsha Valluru won over Mikayla Hernandez and Nina Delafuente 6-1 in the second spot.

UTD went on to win the five singles matches that were played. Nagai won at number one against Hannah Lightner 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 1-0 (10-3). Senior Megan Zeng won over Victoria Ramos 6-0, 6-1 at two and Valluru blanked Caroline Marshall 6-0, 6-0 in the third spot.

Kendall Curley was a 6-3, 6-1 winner against Delafuente over four and Ballado defeated Kendra Welrein 6-1, 6-1 in the fifth spot.

Zeng's victory moves her to ninth on UTD's career list with 30.

The Comets will return to action against Utah Tech on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at home.
