RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team dropped both games of a double-header to #1 East Texas Baptist at the UTD Softball Field Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers (24-2) rallied in the seventh to defeat the Comets (12-11) 6-3 in the opener before taking game two 11-0 in five innings.
Game 1
Freshman shortstop
Sarah Olenick singled up the middle and later scored on a single that dropped down the right field line by
Claire Pollack to give UTD a 1-0 lead in the first. Sophomore first baseman
Cadence Hernandez led the second off a homer over the right field fence to give the Comets a 2-0 advantage.Â
Mikayla Hoffman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth to make the game 3-0.
Sophomore
Allison Koch (3-4) took a two-hit shutout into the seventh. ETBU loaded the bases to start the frame, then lined out and struck out. Makayla Menchue and Mary Frances Ellis drew back-to-back walks to make the game 3-2. Shortstop Tristen Maddox followed with a grand slam to give the Tigers the 6-3 victory.
Hannah Benvides (3-1) earned the win in relief, allowing one hit, one walk and two strikeouts. Koch gave up four hits, six runs and four walks while striking out four.
Game 2
ETBU set the tone in the nightcap with three runs on six hits in the top of the first. They scored five more runs in the second, including a three-run homer to left center by Tauryn Cummings and a solo shot from Ava Rodriguez.Â
Cummings hit a two-run line drive shot over the center field fence to go up 10-0 on the fourth. The Tigers added one more in the inning for the 11-0 win.
ETBU outhit UTD 14-3.
Larkin Daniels (4-0) earned the three-hit shutout victory, allowing three walks with six strikeouts.
Madelyn Denn (6-4) was tagged with the loss.
UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets outhit the Tigers 7-4 in the opener.
- Pollack had three hits on the day, going 2-for-3 in game one. She now has a nine-game hitting streak.
- Hernandez recorded the solo home run and scored twice in the opener.Â

Gracelyn Taylor had doubles in both games.

Brooke Bouldin struck out one with three walks in 1.2 scoreless innings in game two.
East Texas Baptist Notes
- Cummings was 3-for-3 with three runs, six RBI and two home runs in game two.
- Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with the solo homer in the second game.
- Madalyn Melton drove in two runs in game two.
- Emma Bell was 4-for-6 on the day, with three runs scored, a double and a RBI.
