Comets Struck by Rattlers in Four Sets

SAN ANTONIO - The UT Dallas volleyball team played its first road Lone Star Conference match Tuesday night and suffered a 25-16, 29-27, 22-25, 25-20 defeat to St. Mary's at Bill Greehey Arena.

First Set Highlights  
- The Comets (3-10, 1-2 LSC) and Rattlers (5-8, 2-1 LSC) exchanged early points before a service ace from Haleigh Wilk pushed StMU ahead 11-6.  
- St. Mary's extended the lead to 13-6 with another ace by Wilk, contributing to a 7-0 run.  
- UTD attempted a comeback with consecutive points, including a block by Laura See and Moriah Johnson, cutting the deficit to 17-11.  
- St. Mary's maintained control, closing the set on a 8-5 stretch to secure a 25-16 victory.  

Second Set Highlights
- The Rattlers built an early 4-1 lead, which included two blocks by Landry Cate and Laurene Robinson.  
- The Comets rallied from an 8-4 deficit with Johnson delivering three consecutive kills to tie the score at 8-8.  
- St. Mary's regained momentum, extending their lead to 19-13 through key kills from Landri Withers and Laurene Robinson.  
- UTD mounted a late comeback, leveling the set at 23-23 with a series of kills from Jane Burkhardt and See.  
- StMU edged out UTD 29-27, sealed by a block from Dallasstar Johnson and Robinson.

Third Set Highlights
- The Comets capitalized on early errors to establish a 4-2 lead, highlighted by a block from Jada Williams and Abby Gentner.  
- A service ace by Sydney Sabin and a series of kills extended UTD's lead to 14-9, swinging momentum in their favor.  
- UT Dallas widened the gap to 22-15 after a service ace by Mari Hernandez and a series of successful attacks.  
- Despite a late push, the Comets secured the set 25-22 with a decisive kill by Burkhardt.

Fourth Set Highlights
- UT Dallas and St. Mary's traded points early, with neither team gaining more than a two-point advantage by the 11-11 mark.  
- The Comets put together a brief surge with a 5-2 run, highlighted by kills from See and Burkhardt, to seize a 14-12 lead.  
- The Rattlers responded with a decisive stretch, reclaiming the lead at 19-15 behind two kills from Landri Withers and a service ace from Dallasstar Johnson.  
- St. Mary's closed the 25-20 after a kill by Johnson, securing the set and match victory.

Statistics Breakdown
The Comets hit .232 on the night with 61 kills, five aces, 68 digs and five blocks.
The Rattlers had a .349 hitting percentage on 66 kills, eight aces, 76 digs and 10 blocks.

Jane Burkhardt - season-best 21 kills and a .255 percentage. Also had 2 aces, 14 digs and 24 points. 4th double-double of the year.
Abby Gentner - season-high 42 assists and 2 blocks with 11 digs for 7th double-double of the year and 4th straight.
Laura See  - .481 hitting percentage with 15 kills and 2 blocks. Has hit .400 or better in 6 of last 7 matches.
Sydney Sabin - career-high 18 digs with 8 assists and 1 ace.
