SAN ANGELO, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team went on a 22-1 run in the second half, erasing a 12-point deficit, to defeat Angelo State 65-53 at the Junell Center in Lone Star Conference play Thursday night.
The host Rams (12-8, 3-6 LSC) led 31-25 at halftime and extended the advantage to 39-27 at the 16:44 mark in the second period. The Comets (5-10, 4-3 LSC)Â answered with the big run, highlighted by five free throws from junior forward
Jordan Balderaz and eight points by junior guard
Matthew Soto.
With the 49-40 lead, UTD controlled the game, going up by as many as 15 before leaving with a 12-point victory, the team's fourth straight win.
The Comets shot 45.1 percent (23-for-51) from the floor, 8-of-22 from three-point territory and 11-of-18 at the line with 30 rebounds, 17 assists, 15 turnovers and seven steals. UTD committed just nine fouls the entire game.
ASU shot 39 percent (22-of-59) overall, 3-of-20 from outside and 4-of-9 at the line with 41 boards, 12 assists, 19 turnovers and 12 steals.
UT Dallas Performances
- Sophomore guard
Jaden Jefferson led the Comets with 16 points and four steals.
- Soto finished with 12 points, going 4-for-4 overall and 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
- Sophomore guard
Peyton Dulin recorded 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.
- Balderaz scored seven points, all at the line.
- Freshman center
Hudson Goellner had six points and five rebounds.
Angelo State Performances
- Jhordan Ryan led the Rams with 18 points and 19 rebounds.
- Jordan Cawford had nine points, five rebounds, seven assists and seven steals.
- Jessiah McWright recorded nine points.Â
