ODESSA, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team's four-game winning streak came to an end with a 78-70 loss to UT Permian Basin in Lone Star Conference play at the Falcon Dome Saturday afternoon.
The first class was a close battle with the host Falcons (7-11, 3-7 LSC) leading the Comets (5-11, 4-4 LSC) 36-33 at the break. Three straight points by freshman
Hudson Goellner to open the second half knotted the game at 36-36.Â
UTPB answered with a 16-5 run to take an 11-point lead at the 13:14 mark. UTD chipped away at the lead and a three-poiinter by
Peyton Dulin with 1:20 left made the game 73-70. The Falcons went 3-for-3 at the line and made a basket in the final minute to secure the eight-point victory.
The Comets shot 38.7 percent (24-of-62) from the field, 8-of-34 from three-point range and 14-of-22 at the line with 40 rebounds, 17 assists, 13 turnovers, one block and seven steals.
UTPB shot 41.5 percent (27-of-65) overall, 9-of-31 from outside and 15-of-16 at the line with 37 boards, 21 assists, 11 turnovers, two blocks and eight steals.
UT Dallas Performances
- Sophomore guard
Jaden Jefferson scored 18 points and dished out a season-high six assists.
- Goellner finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and a blocked shot.
- Dulin scored 12 points, going 6-for-6 at the free throw line, with four assists and a pair of steals.
- Junior forward
Zach Spitzer posted seven points and 10 rebounds.
- Redshit freshman guard
Kris White had six points, four rebounds and two steals.
- Junior guard
Matthew Soto hit a pair of three-pointers for six points.
UT Permian Basin Performances
- Rashad Kee led the Falcons with 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
- Tash Lunday recorded 15 points and five rebounds.
- Sharrod Taylor had 11 points and 12 assists.
- Bryceson Burns had 10 points, five boards, four assists and three steals.
- TJ McKenzie posted 11 points and two steals.
