RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team lost 89-77 to Western New Mexico in Lone Star Conference play at the Activity Center Thursday night.
The Comets (5-12, 4-5 LSC) built a 23-15 lead over the first nine and a half minutes of the game, capped by a three-pointer by freshman forward
Jacob Smithey. The Mustangs (14-4, 8-3 LSC) outscored the home team 27-11 the rest of the half to take a 42-34 advantage into the break.
Despite UTD shooting nearly 61 percent in the second half, WNMU held the home team off for the 12-point victory.
For the game, the Comets shot 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the floor, 10-of-21 from outside and 11-of-15 from the line with 30 rebounds, 21 assists, 15 turnovers, seven blocks and five steals.
The Mustangs shot 52.8 percent (38-of-72) overall, 8-for-16 from beyond the arc and 5-of-5 at the line with 34 rebounds, 22 assists, seven turnovers, nine blocks and 14 steals.
UT Dallas Performances
- Sophomore guard
Peyton Dulin led UTD with 16 points and four assists. He was 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.
- Freshman center
Hudson Goellner scored 13 points.
- Junior guard
Matthew Soto was 4-for-4 shooting, including a trio of three-pointers, for 11 points.
- Sophomore
Bryce Potts recorded 10 points off the bench.
- Junior forward
Zach Spitzer led the Comets with eight rebounds and two blocks with three assists.
Western New Mexico Performances
- Isaiah Broady led the Mustangs with 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting off the bench. He also recorded four rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
- Cortavaius Seales had 17 points, three assists and two steals.
- Andre Harris came up with 14 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, two blocks and four steals.
- NoNo Brown added eight points, nine boards, four assists and three steals.
- Carson Kelley dished out six assists.
