Men's Basketball Topped by UT Tyler

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team lost a Lone Star Conference contest to UT Tyler 71-50 at the Activity Center Thursday evening. 

Playing for the first time since 2019, the Patriots (13-11, 7-11 LSC) shot 50 percent (15-of-30) in the first half and limited the Comets (6-18, 5-11 LSC) to 26 percent (7-of-27) from the field. UTT led 38-18 at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second period.

UTD shot 33.3 percent (17-for-51) overall, 4-of-23 from three-point range and 12-of-23 from the line with 36 rebounds, 10 assists, 11 turnovers, four blocks and one steal.

UT Tyler shot 46 percent (29-for-63) from the field, 5-of-22 from outside and 8-of-14 at the charity stripe with 41 boards, 16 assists, five turnovers, six blocks and five steals.

UT Dallas Performances
- Guard Matthew Soto led the Comets with 12 points and three assists. He has scored in double-digits in four straight games.
- Freshman guard Will Warren scored nine points.
- Junior forward Jordan Balderaz added eight points.
- Jacob Smithey added six points and five rebounds.
- Hudson Goellner had five points, five rebounds and a block.
- Peyton Dulin recorded four points, five rebounds and a steal.

UT Tyler Performances
- Xavier Williams led the Patriots with 16 points.
- Kyle Morgan scored 13 points.
- Sam Phipps recorded 12 points, eight rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals.
- John Barbee made three three-pointers for 11 points.
- Jacob Bell dished out six assists.

Up Next
UT Dallas will take on DBU at home on Saturday at 3 p.m. Two seniors will be honored before the game.
