RICHARDSON, Texas - For the second time this season, the UT Dallas women's basketball team defeated Sul Ross State in Lone Star Conference action - this time at the UTD Activity Center on Tuesday night by the score of 71-65.
The Comets (11-14, 8-10 LSC) recorded a season-high 53 rebounds and held the Lobos (3-21, 2-16 LSC) to just 33.
UTD built up a 16-point lead in the second quarter, before taking a 39-26 advantage into the break. SRSU started the third quarter with a 13-2 run, making the game 41-39 mid-way through the period. The Comets ended the third on a 16-6 rally and led by 12 going into the final quarter.
The Lobos outscored the Comets 20-14, but the home team hung on for the six-point victory.
UTD shot 37.3 percent (25-of-67) overall, 1-of-20 from three-point range and 20-of-24 at the free throw line. Of the 53 rebounds, 18 were offensive, to go with 16 assists, 20 turnovers, 10 blocks and nine steals.
SRSU shot 34.4 percent (22-of-64) from the field, 10-of-21 from outside and 11-of-20 at the line with 16 assists, 12 turnovers, two blocks and eight steals.
UT Dallas Performances
- With the 10 blocked shots, the Comets tied the single-season team record with the 2011-12 squad with 118 on the year.
- Freshman guard
Kinley Mears recorded season-highs of 22 points, seven rebounds and seven steals and dished out four assists.

Umi Otsuka had 15 points and was 9-of-10 at the free throw line.
- Freshman forward
Danielle Oyakhire posted her fourth double-double of the year with 14 points and 11 rebounds to go with four blocked shots and two steals.
- Senior
Addy Self had 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and five blocks.

Clara Paynter recorded eight rebounds and three assists.
Sul Ross State Performances
- Sophiya Bustillos led the Lobos with 24 points.
- Leslie Mojica recorded 16 points and three assists.
- Emma Schumacher had nine points.
- Ariana Escalante recorded six points, five boards and four steals.
- Victoria Aguayo added seven rebounds and five assists.
