LAWTON, Okla. - The UT Dallas women's basketball team overcame a seven-point, fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Cameron 61-56 at Aggie Gymnasium Thursday night.
The host Aggies (2-25, 2-17 Lone Star Conference) hit a three-pointer to start the fourth quarter, giving them a 48-41 lead. Down 54-50 with 1:36 left, the Comets (12-14, 9-10 LSC),
Anna Yellen hit a dagger three-pointer on the next possession to cut the deficit to one. Senior forward
Addy Self blocked Madison Griggs shot and pulled down the board. Self was fouled with just under a minute to play and she hit both free throws to put UTD up 55-54.
Another CU miss led to
Kinley Mears sinking a free throws, then
Umi Otsuka made two more with 22 seconds left. Mercedes Mancha made a shot with 16 seconds remaining to make the game 59-56. UTD sealed the win with a pair of
Clara Paynter free throws.
The Comets shot 28.8 percent (19-of-66) overall, 5-of-23 from outside and 18-of-23 from the line, including 8-of-8 in the final minute. They also recorded 43 rebounds, nine assists, eight turnovers, three blocks and eight steals.
The Aggies shot 29.7 percent (19-of-64) from the field, 9-of-32 from three-point range and 9-of-17 at the line with 43 rebounds, seven assists, 13 turnovers, one block and two steals.
UT Dallas Performances
- The Comets blocked three shots, breaking the single-season team record with 121 on the year.
- Mears led UTD with 17 points. She is averaging 11.4 points over the last seven games.
- Self recorded her sixth double-double of the year with 13 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks and three steals. She became the sixth Comet to grab 200 rebounds in a season (203) and moved into third on the all-time list with 44 blocked shots this season. Self also moved into sixth with 489 career rebounds.
- Yellen went 3-for-6 from outside for 11 points. She is now tied for eighth in UTD history with 93 career three-pointers made.
- Otsuka finished with eight points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Danielle Oyakhire had five points and eight boards.
Cameron Performances
- Madison Griggs led the Aggies with 25 points on 9-of-26 shooting, 3-of-13 from three.
- Mancha finished with 11 points and four assists.
- Aminata Diallo had seven points and 11 rebounds.
