RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's tennis team will commence its spring portion of the schedule when it hosts Southern Arkansas at the UTD Tennis Courts at 1 p.m. Friday.
The Comets, under 22nd-year head coach
Bryan Whitt, return four players after going 5-9 overall last year.
Senior
Benjamin Dubois, who went 9-5 in singles and 8-6 in doubles play last year, and freshman
Juan Luis Aguirre were named to the Lone Star Conference Preseason Players to Watch List.
Other returnees include senior
Eddy Shteyn, senior
Matheus de Freitas Zanellato and junior
Ben Barnet. Newcomers include
Eduardo Pastor and
Jose Perez Castillo. Junior
Ronav Aviur returns to the squad from the 2024 Comets. Shteyn was 9-5 in doubles play last year.
UTD will play its first full season of LSC competition. They are not eligible for the postseason, but can win the regular season title and receive all awards.
The Comets will also host Delta State and Northeastern State in February, Southwest Baptist, Ouachita Baptist Hawaii Pacific, McKendree and Hawai'i-Hilo in March in non-conference play.
Key Lone Star matches include #5 Lubbock Christian on March 27, #18 Midwestern State on April 10 and #7 UT Tyler on April 21.
