RICHARDSON, Texas - Junior forward
Zach Spitzer hit a jumper as time expired, giving the UT Dallas men's basketball team a 75-74 victory over Midwestern State at the UTD Activity Center Saturday afternoon.
The game was a battle throughout with nine ties and 12 lead changes. The Comets (6-15, 5-8 Lone Star Conference) jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the opening minutes before the Mustangs (7-13, 5-8 LSC) answered with a 14-4 run to grab an 18-16 lead. MSU went on to lead 42-32 at halftime.
UTD started the second period with a 20-8 rally to go up 52-50 with 12:43 remaining. From there, the squads would tie or exchange leads until the final second.
A layup by Terrance Ramirez put the Mustangs up 74-73 with 14 seconds left. The Comets missed a three-pointer, and the rebound was tipped out of bounds by the Mustangs with 1.5 seconds remaining. On the inbound,
Peyton Dulin lobbed the ball to Spitzer in the air. Spitzer landed and hit a floater as time expired, giving UTD the victory.
The Comets shot 43.3 percent (26-of-60) from the field, 9-for-29 from three-point range and 14-of-23 at the free throw line. They also recorded 39 rebounds, 21 assists, 13 turnovers, four blocks and three steals.
The Mustangs shot 48.3 percent (29-of-60) overall, 3-of-14 from outside and 13-of-19 at the line with 32 rebounds, 11 assists, eight turnovers, five blocks and eight steals.

Will Warren, making his first start, recorded season-highs of 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
- Freshman
Hudson Goellner also scored 14 points with four rebounds and a steal.
- Junior forward
Jordan Balderaz added 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a block.
- Guard
Matthew Soto had 11 points and six assists.Â
- Spitzer finished with 11 points, four boards and a blocked shot.
- Dulin posted nine points, eight assists and two blocks.
West Texas A&M Performances
- Davyon Butler led the Mustangs with 18 points and three steals off the bench.
- Terrence Ramirez scored 14 points with two assists.
- Jordan Reed had 13 points, two assists and two steals.
- Kadon Jackson added seven points and eight rebounds off the bench.
