RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team dominated the paint in Saturday's 86-74 Lone Star Conference victory over Midwestern State at the Activity Center.
The Comets (10-10, 7-6 LSC) outscored the Mustangs (5-14, 2-11 LSC) 56-28 in the paint, as they shot 54.1 percent (33-for-61) from the field.
The score was close throughout most of the game, with UTD leading 42-37 at halftime. A three-pointer by DaLonna Choice gave MSU a 66-64 lead with 6:48 remaining in the contest. The Comets led 76-74 at the 1:40 mark and extended it with a
Kinley Mears three-pointer with a minute left.
UTD went on to win by 12 points, going 6-for-6 at the free throw line, including four by
Anna Yellen, in the final minute.
The Comets recorded their second-best shooting performance of the season. They were also 2-for-12 from outside and 18-of-26 at the free throw line with 39 rebounds, 20 assists, 20 turnovers, three blocks and 14 steals.
The Mustangs shot 42.4 percent (25-of-59) overall, 7-of-21 from three-point range and 17-of-23 at the line with 29 rebounds, 10 assists, 20 turnovers, two blocks and 10 steals.
UT Dallas Performances
- Junior guard
Umi Otsuka scored a season-high 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting. She also had five assists and four steals.
- Freshman
Danielle Oyakhire posted her third double-double of the year with a season-high 21 points and 11 rebounds.
- Senior forward
Addy Self also had a double-double of 14 points, 11 boards - her fifth of the season. She also recorded six assists, two blocks and five steals.
- Mears finished with 10 points and four assists.
- Yellen was 6-for-6 at the free throw line.
Midwestern State Performances
- Veonce Powell led the Mustangs with 19 points and three steals.
- Kerbie Cash had 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.
- Ta'Leeyah Glynn added 14 points.
- Macie Upshaw posted 13 points and six rebounds.
