KINGSVILLE, Texas - The UT Dallas women's tennis team lost to Texas A&M-Kingsville 4-3Â in Lone Star Conference action at the Javelina Tennis Courts Saturday.
The Comets (6-10, 3-4 LSC) started the match by winning the doubles point. Freshmen
Presley Churchman and
Sheryl Gerald defeated #20 Guadalupe Tocci and Maya Donker 6-4 for the tandem's second victory over a ranked team this season. Juniors
Reika Nagai and
Elsha Valluru won at number three, topping the Javelinas' (8-9, 4-4 LSC) Kaitlin Blount and Yasmin El Fadili 6-3.
Four of the six singles duels went to a third set and another was decided in a tiebreaker. Freshman
Namrata Makhija earned UTD's other point at number five, topping Blount 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-3.Â
The Comets' other point was earned at number six, where freshman
Grecia Idrogo defeated Yasmin El Fadili 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 6-1.
Katia Robinson lost 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 to Donker in the top spot and Nagai fell to Tocci 6-4, 7-5 (7-5) at two. TAMUK's Ann Andersson Gomez defeated Gerald 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 at four.
The Comets will play their final road match of the season at #25 Angelo State in San Angelo, Texas at 2 p.m. Sunday.
