RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's tennis team lost to #26 UT Tyler 6-1 at the UTD Tennis Courts in Lone Star Conference play on Wednesday.
The Patriots (16-6, 8-1 LSC) swept through doubles for the first point of the match. Eighth-ranked Yona Bancarel and Natalia Gorzny defeated freshmen
Presley Churchman and
Sheryl Gerald 6-3 in the top spot.
The Comets' (6-12, 3-6 LSC) only point came at number three doubles, where Churchman defeated Maria Antonio Ortega 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.Â
UTT won the top two spots with the #10 and #47 players in the nation. The final two flights were decided in a third-set tiebreaker. The Patriots' Paula Castellanos won at number five over
Namrata Makhija 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8). At six, Claudia Di Leonardo defeated junior
Kendall Curley 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7).
UTD will host its final match of the season on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against St. Mary's.
