SILVER CITY, N.M. - The UT Dallas women's tennis team defeated Western New Mexico 5-2 in a Lone Star Conference match at the Mustang Tennis Courts on Friday.
With the win, the Comets (6-7, 3-1 LSC) moved into fourth place in the league standings. They have won six of their last eight contests.
UTD picked up the doubles point by winning two of three from the Mustangs (4-8, 1-2 LSC). Freshmen
Presley Churchman and
Sheryl Gerald defeated Lucia Carmena and Nikoletta Pytel 7-6 (7-4) in the top duel. Juniors
Reika Nagai and
Elsha Valluru topped Xaviera Melgar and Sofija Krstic at number three 6-1.
The Comets secured the match with four singles victories. At number one, Churchman defeated Pytel 7-5, 6-3 and Gerald won at four by retirement.
Namrata Makhija won over Melgar 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth spot. Junior
Kendall Curley won over Krstic 6-3, 6-2 at six.
UTD will battle #34 Midwestern State on Friday, April 10 at 2 p.m. at home.
