ODESSA, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team suffered a sweep by UT Permian Basin in the first match of the LSC Challenge at the Falcon Dome Thursday night. The Falcons (4-1) topped the Comets (4-4) 33-31, 28-26, 25-21 in the non-conference battle.
The match featured 27 ties and 13 lead changes.
Facing set point at 24-23 in the first, UTD picked up a kill by
Lashae Goffney and a block from
Laura See and
Scarlette Young to serve for its own set point, 25-24. UTPB tied it at 25-25, and from there, both teams had multiple chances at ending the frame. A
Jane Burkhardt kill put the Comets up 31-30, but the Falcons rebounded after a service error, a block by Precious Johnson and Sydney Bradley and finally, a kill by Kaitlyn Salgado.
UTD jumped out to a 15-8 advantage in the second, but UTPB answered with a 13-3 run to go up 21-18. The Comets rattled off four straight points to take a 22-21 lead and eventually went up 24-23. The Falcons once again fought off the set point, with a 5-2 rally, and take a decisive lead.
UT Dallas led 19-15 in the third, but UT Permian Basin ended the match on a 10-2 run.Ā
The Comets hit .137 in the match on 40 kills, seven aces, eight blocks and 59 digs. The Falcons hit .167 with 49 kills, six aces, seven blocks and 70 digs.

- Burkhardt led the Comets with 14 kills and had 10 digs for a double-double.
- Young finished with nine kills, 13 assists, three aces, three blocks and 10 digs.
- Goffney hit .385 with five kills and a pair of blocks.
