EDMOND, Okla. - The UT Dallas volleyball team ground out a tough, three-set sweep of Oklahoma Christian in the squad's Lone Star Conference opener Friday night at the Eagles' Nest. The Comets (5-5, 1-0 LSC) defeated the Eagles (5-6, 0-1 LSC) 25-23, 25-15, 33-31.
UTD led most of the first set and held off a late OC rally. Second-year outside hitter
Jane Burkhardt posted five kills in the first frame for the Comets, while Leah Duncan had six for the Eagles.
In the second, OC led 14-10, but UTD answered with a 15-1 run to close it out. The Comets were on fire offensively, hitting .391 led by Burkhardt's eight kills and no errors.
The third set was a wild affair with 16 ties and seven lead changes. With the Comets up 16-14, the Eagles fought back to go up 22-19.
OC served for set point at 24-23, but UTD kept it alive with a block from
Savannah Welch and
Lila Westphal. The Comets served for match point four more times, and the home team would have two more chances to close out the set, including up at 31-30.
UT Dallas closed out the match after an OC attack error, a kill from Burkhardt and an ace by
Sydney Sabin.
For the match, the Comets hit .204 on 33 kills, nine aces, eight blocks and 39 digs. The Eagles hit .192 with 48 kills, two aces, five blocks and 52 digs.
UT Dallas Notes
- Burkhardt finished with 20 kills, tied for the second most in a three-set match in program history. She also hit a career-best .422 to go with two blocks and a pair of aces.

- Sabin recorded four aces and eight digs. She leads the Comets with 20 aces this season.
