UTD Powers Past St. Mary's in Four Sets

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team hit a season-best .272 as they defeated St. Mary's 25-21, 25-13, 23-25, 25-20 in a Lone Star Conference battle at the UTD Activity Center Wednesday evening.

The Rattlers (9-6, 2-3 LSC) led 17-16 in the first before the Comets (7-6, 3-1 LSC) went on a 6-0 run to take control of the set. StMU made it 23-21, but UTD won after back-to-back kills from Scarlette Young.Ā 

The Comets easily took set two, hitting .556 on 17 kills and only two errors in the frame. The Rattlers overcame a 22-21 deficit in the third set by ending it on a 4-1 rally.

In the fourth, UT Dallas and St. Mary's were tied at 20-20 when the home team rattled off the final five points to finish the match. Young recorded back-to-back kills and served an ace, then Morgan Helms ended the night on a kill.

The Comets hit .272 with 61 kills, six aces, 67 digs and eight blocks for the match. The Rattlers hit .142 on 45 kills, six aces, 63 digs and four blocks.

UT Dallas Notes
- Young recorded her fourth triple-double of the season, which leads all of NCAA Division II. She finished the night with 20 kills, 20 assists, 12 digs, five blocks and a service ace while hitting .340.
- Outside hitter Jane Burkhardt had 17 kills, two blocks and six digs.
- Middle blocker Laura See hit .471 on eight kills and posted five block assists.
- Savannah Welch added seven kills and three blocks.
- Right side Lashae GoffneyĀ recorded six kills.
- Abby Gentner posted 25 assists, two aces and seven digs.
- Libero Avery Gray came up with 27 digs. She is averaging 7.27 digs per set in the last three matches.
- Sydney Sabin recorded a season-best 13 digs.

St. Mary's Notes
- Laurene Robinson led the Rattlers with 15 kills to go with a pair of aces, three blocks and 13 digs.
- Taylor Alston had 11 kills.
- Madyson Carr hit .571 with eight kills.
- Setter Haleigh Wilk posted 39 assists and 13 digs.
- Olivia Rubio led St. Mary's with four total blocks.
- Kaylee Cavazos came up with 16 digs.

The Comets will host #7 Angelo State at 6 p.m. on Friday. There will be drawings for New Balance gear during the match.
