DENTON, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team battled Southern Nazarene in a close, five-set loss at the Denton Volleyfest at Kitty Magee Arena Friday afternoon. The Comets (3-3) fell to the undefeated Crimson Storm (7-0) 25-11, 24-26, 15-25, 25-19, 16-14.
SNU opened with a first-set victory, but UTD rebounded to take sets two and three.Ā
In set two, the Comets overcame a 22-19 deficit, ending the frame on a 7-2 run. UT Dallas dominated the third, which included five kills from outside hitter
Jane Burkhardt and four more from fellow outside
Addison Schnautz.Ā
The Crimson Storm forced a fifth set after leading most of the fourth.
The final set saw 12 ties and seven lead changes, with neither team leading by more than two points.Ā
Tied at 12-12, the Comets picked up kills from Schnautz and
Laura See to serve for match point. SNU held off its first loss and claimed the victory with the final four points. Riley Richardson recorded a killĀ and two block assists to close out the match.
UTD hit .220 with a season-best 66 kills and 13 aces. They also recorded 76 digs and four blocks. SNU hit .281 on 54 kills, eight aces, 71 digs and 11 blocks.
UT Dallas Notes
- Burkhardt finished with a double-double of 22 kills and 13 digs, her third of the season. It was also her second 20-plus kills performance of the year.

Scarlette Young posted 13 kills, 31 aces and 21 digs for her second triple-double in the last three matches. It was also the 20th in program history.
- SchnautzĀ finished with a season-best 12 kills.
- See hit .412 with nine kills and two blocks. She is hitting .379 on the season.

Abby Gentner also had a double-double of 20 assists and 12 digs with a pair of aces.

Avery Gray came up with 16 digs, three aces and eight assists.

Sydney Sabin added 11 digs and four aces. She leads the squad with 14 aces this season.

- Rayanna Mauldin led the Crimson Storm with 15 kills and picked up 12 digs.
- Kylie Wright had 14 kills, three aces and 18 digs.
- Makenzie Moseley added nine kills and five blocks.
- Richardson finished with seven kills and four blocks.
- Morgan Hannah led all players with six total blocks.
- Emma Grace Moddelmog posted 33 assists.
- Sydney Marquez led SNU with 23 digs.
