Tennis Squads Complete First ASC East Division Road Trip Against LETU, McMurry

THE MEN'S TEAM FELL TO 2-5 ON THE SEASON, WHILE THE WOMEN'S TEAM POLISHED ITS 4-2 MARK

JAY DECOSTE, A JUNIOR, IS 2-4 IN SINGLES ACTION THIS SPRING.
ABILENE, TX (03.07.10) – The UT Dallas tennis teams wrapped up their first American Southwest Conference road trip of the spring on Sunday, collecting a combined record of 1-3 between matches against LeTourneau and McMurry.

The Comets were swept by McMurry on a frigid, windy day in Abilene on Sunday. UTD's men's squad (2-5) dropped a 7-2 decision to McMurry, extending the Comets' losing streak to three games, dating back to last week's loss to Division I opponent UT-Arlington.

Eric Debusschere picked up UTD's lone victory in singles action with a 6-2, 7-6 win over McMurry's Bryan Rainwater. Debusschere teamed up with Alex Ishikawa to post the only Comet win in doubles flights.

On the women's side, UTD (4-2) was blanked in doubles play—a fortuitous start for a McMurry team that was able to end the match early. Rachel Houston and Jennifer Solis, last week's ASC East Division Player of the Week, each earned wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles slots, respectively. But two more McMurry Ws in the singles column cemented UTD's second loss of the season, 5-2.

LONGVIEW, TX (03.06.10) –
The LeTourneau men's team, boasting a 12-1 overall record, proved too much to handle for UTD. The Comet men were wiped out, 9-0, in just their second ASC East Division match of the season.

Ishikawa fell 6-1, 6-2 to LETU's Mark Taylor, who is currently ranked 21st regionally. The Comets failed to secure a set win in singles action.

The UTD women, on the other hand, stretched their win streak to four games after clipping the YellowJackets by a final of 6-3. Houston, Solis, Lauren Diaz and Nacona Davis all notched vital wins in single play, while Houston and Solis were able to edge LETU's top tandem of Mary Lauren Bright and Brooke Kincade 8-1.

The UT Dallas women's tennis team will travel to Southern California next week. The Comets are scheduled to square off with Cal Lutheran, LaVerne, La Sierra and Chapman during a span of three days (March 14-16).

The men will have a 19-day hiatus before returning to ASC East Division action with a match against Mississippi College in Clinton, MS on March 26.
