BELTON, TX (03.17.12) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team picked up its fourth straight win Saturday with a 5-4 road win over Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Comets (now 4-1) needed to pick up four singles win after dropping 2-of-3 doubles matches, and did so in dramatic fashion, picking up a victory at No. 6 singles to end the day.
Matthew Davis and
Bryan Leib were the only UTD players to find success in doubles, downing UMHB's Joshua Pownall/Will Summes, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles.
Ian Lucio and Guilherme Portela fell at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, and
Kirby Chenkin and
Camden Cornwell dropped an 8-4 decision at No. 3.
Davis evened the match with three-set win over Summers, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Leib and Portela each added wins in singles before Lucio pulled off the win for the Comets with a win at No. 6. Leib downed Pownall, 6-7, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 2 and Portela held off UMHB's Collin Davies, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 before Lucio would edged James Turner, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, to give UTD the win. Chenkin and
Josh Minns were both handed losses in singles.
UTD returns to action Friday when the Comets host Hardin-Simmons at 2 p.m.
