WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The UT Dallas men's tennis team won five matches on the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Central Regionals Thursday. 

Comet newcomers Jose Perez Castillo and Juan Luis Aguirre picked up victories in the singles draw before being eliminated by the #1 and #7 seeds, respectively.

Senior Benjamin Dubois defeated Trevor Short of UT Tyler 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 in the consolation bracket and will face Rowan Olsen from Midwestern State at 8 a.m. Friday.

In doubles, Castillo and Dubois defeated Jose Marquez and Tomas Leguizamon Chaves from MSU 8-1. They pushed UTT's top-ranked tandem of Daniil Felker and Carel Wessel before losing 8-5.

Snehin Yerragudi and Matheus de Freitas Zanellato topped UT Permian Basin's Yatharth Yadav and Sebastian Garcia 8-1 in the consolation round. The UTD duo will take on UT Tyler's Manuel Lassacher and Arthur Miquelard in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. Friday.
