RICHARDSON, TX (03.24.12) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team continues to roll, earning a pair of wins over the weekend. The Comets downed Hardin-Simmons, 7-2, at home Friday before a 9-0 win at Louisiana College Saturday in a return to American Southwest Conference East Division play.
UTD 7, HSU 2 (BOX SCORE)
The Comets picked up two doubles wins and claimed 5-of-6 singles matches to extend their winning streak to five straight matches, downing Hardin-Simmons, 7-2, Friday afternoon.
Dustin Foster and
David Yeh teamed up for an 8-2 win over HSU's Michael McCullough/Tony Record at No. 2 doubles and Guilherme Portela/
Ian Lucio downed HSU's Gavin Yabarra/Steven Stanley, 9-7, at No. 3 doubles. The duo of
Matthew Davis and
Bryan Leib were losers at No. 1 doubles, falling to Sean Sthrehlow/Erich Bein, 8-4.
In singles play, Davis and Leib both got retribution as they both picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Davis downed Bein, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, and Leib held off Strehlow, 6-4, 6-1, to help UTD pull away. Foster earned a 6-2, 6-1, win over Cullen Dees at No. 3 singles and Yeh edged McCullough, 6-4, 5-7, 10-8, at No. 4 singles. Portela was a 6-2, 6-0 winner of Yabarra at No. 5 singles.
Kirby Chenkin dropped his match at No. 6 to Stanley, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.
UTD 9, LC 0 (BOX SCORE)
The Comets picked their first ASC East win of the season Saturday, dominating Louisiana College, 9-0, on the road. UTD dropped just two games in doubles play and only four games in singles action to even their division mark at 1-1.
Davis and
Camden Cornwell downed LC's Nathan Boles/Daniel Bembenick, 8-1, at No. 1 while Foster/Portela defeated Reyes Villanueva/Conner Harlow, 8-1, at No.2 . Leib and Yeh blanked James Clayton/Edwin Morales, 8-0, at No. 3.
Davis opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Bembenick at No. 1 and Leib followed up with a 6-0, 6-0, win over Boles. Foster, Yeh and Portela each earned 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, respetively, while Cornwell finished off Morales, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 6.
The Comets (now 6-1, 1-1 ASC East) continue divisional play Friday as they host Ozarks at 3 p.m.
