LONGVIEW, TX (04.10.12) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team snapped a two-match losing skid as the Comets earned a 6-1 win at LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference East Division play. The match was called due to lightning with two singles contests left on the courts.
The Comets (now 8-3, 3-2 ASC East) earned a pair of wins in doubles before taking all four singles matches that were able to finish. Matt Davis and
Bryan Leib opened play with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and
Sander Kaasjager and
Ian Lucio teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Leib was the first UTD singles player to finish, downing Kendall Beggs, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2 singles and Davis came in shortly after with a 6-3, 6-4, win over Carlos Cantu at No. 1 singles.
Dustin Foster picked up a 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, win over Sindre Johnsgaard at No. 3 singles and Guilherme Portela picked up a 6-1, 6-0, victory over Will Cazares at No. 5 singles. Kaasjager and Lucio both had their matches called due to lightning.
The Comets return to action Friday when they wrap up ASC East play with a match with East Texas Baptist at 3 p.m. at the UTD Tennis Courts. The Comets have already secured the No. 3 seed at the ASC Championships, slated for Apr. 27-29.
