RICHARDSON, TX (10.11.14) - The UT Dallas volleyball team set the tone early and finished strong as the Comets cruised to a 3-0 home win over Hardin-Simmons Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play. With the win, UTD improved to 8-1 at home this season.
The Comets (now 13-8, 7-4 ASC) hit .522 as a team in the opening set to grab a 25-9 win and never looked back, winning the following two sets, 25-16 and 25-19. After another dominant performance in the second set, UTD relied on a 14-point run on the service of senior
Taylour Toso to grab a 16-9 advantage after falling into an early 9-2 hole. The Comets finished the match hitting .352 as a squad with seven blocks and seven aces.
Meredith Crawford led the Comets with 12 kills, hitting .611, while adding six digs and three blocks. Toso added 11 kills, hitting a school-record .688, with six aces, three digs and a block. Toso did not commit an error in 16 swings. Setter
Kayla Jordan ended the short match with 34 assists (just over 11.0 per set) while
Holyn Handley led UTD with nine digs.
The Comets return to action next Saturday at Sul Ross State where UTD will look to snap a six-match road losing streak. Match time is 2 p.m. in Alpine.
