Comet Women Keep Rolling Along, Down LeTourneau, 78-53

RICHARDSON, TX (01.10.15) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team dished out a season-high 23 assists as the Comets rolled to a 78-53 win over LeTourneau Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.

Senior Amber Brown matched a school record with 11 assists while fellow senior Madi Hess added eight as the Comets improved to 11-2 overall and 7-1 in ASC play. Senior Ashley Shaw was the beneficiary of several of those, setting a new career high with 15 points while Brown recorded her first "double-double" of the season, adding 13 points to go with 11 rebounds.

The Comets broke open a close game midway through the first half, and then survived a LETU charge midway through the second half to post the 25-point win., their seventh straight conference win. LETU fell to 3-10 and 1-7 in ASC play.

After falling behind three times to open the game and surviving four ties, UTD took the lead for good on a Christina Brosnahan three-pointer at 14:36. The game was still a two-point affair when Madi Hess found Shaw alone underneath at 9:47 in the first half and the senior post layed it in to start a Comet rally. By the end of the half, UTD had reeled off a 26-14 run and led 43-19 after a Sarah Wisor layup off a McKenzie Petty steal with :03 left before the break.

The Yellowjackets made a charge to open the second period, resorting to a full-court press. After a pair of steals led to easy layups, LETU had polished off a 14-7 run and cut UTD's lead down to 50-43 with still 12:32 to play.

But Brosnahan answered that run by sparking a UTD run of its own with a three-pointer at 12:05. Five minutes later, Shaw grabbed a rebound and sank a pair of free throws after she was fouled to cap a 14-2 Comet outburst that put UTD ahead 64-45 with 7:43 remaining. UTD then continued to pile it on, reeling off a 10-4 run that ended with a 74-49 lead with 3:57 left. Before the game ended, the Comets got a Petty jumper at 1:36 that put them up 78-52 for their largest lead of the game (26 points).

UTD shot a remarkable 51.8 percent from the floor throughout the game (29-56) and were 6-of-15 from beyond the three-point line. Defensively, the Comets held LETU to a 30.6 showing (15-49) and only gave up one long-range shot. The Yellowjackets kept the rebounding battle close (34-33), but turned the ball over 22 times with the Comets scoring 31 points off the miscues.

The Comets take their ASC win streak on the road next weekend, travelling to Concordia and Mary Hardin-Baylor before returning home on Jan. 22 to face UT Tyler
