No. 20 Comets Take 15th Straight With Sweep of Belhaven

RICHARDSON,TX (10.23.15) - The No. 20-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team collected their 17th sweep of the season Friday night with a 3-0 home win over Belhaven. The Comets cruised to a 25-7, 25-8, 25-22, win over the Blazers to pick up their 15th consecutive victory.

The Comets (now 22-2) will look to wrap up the home portion of their regular season Saturday afternoon as they celebrate Senior Day against LeTourneau. Game time is 2 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.

UTD hit better than .300 for the seventh match this season as Michelle Toro lead the offensive attack with 12 kills without an error. Toro picked up seven of her kills in the final set and hit .667 and added four blocks against Belhaven. Holyn Handley had nine kills while Kristyn Schott had seven kills. Senior setter Kayla Jordan finished with 36 assists, 12.0 per set, while Abbie Barth finished with a match-high 16 digs.

The Comets hit .409 in the opening stanza, getting four kills from Handley en route to a 25-7 first-set victory. Belhaven hit -.074 to open the match, collecting just four kills and making six errors. UTD then hit an impressive .560 in the second set as the Comets collected 17 kills in a 25-8 win. Emma Wallbrown had five kills and Toro added four kills as Belhaven once again hit negative (-.050). The Comets struggled at the start of the third set, even allowing the Blazer to take an early 9-3 lead, but bounced back thanks to 15 kills and four blocks, hitting .159 in the final set. UTD finished the match hitting .330 as a team.

Belhaven fell to 8-16 with the loss and got a team-high five kills from Molly Boyer.
