Comet Men Handle Hendrix, 92-69, To Improve To 3-0

CONWAY, AR (11.29.15) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team shot better than 52 percent from the field as the Comets picked up their third straight win to open the season Sunday with a 92-69 road victory at Hendrix in non-conference play.

The Comets (now 3-0) got a game-high 20 points from Jon Hatcher, leading five UTD players in double figures. Hatcher was 5-for-12 from the field, hitting a pair of three pointers, and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line. He added a game-best 10 rebounds for his first career "double-double".

UTD shot 50 percent (16-of-32) from the floor over the opening 20 minutes en route to a 43-24 halftime lead over the host Warriors (now 1-4). The Comets then stepped up their game in the second half, shooting 55.6 percent (15-of-27) as a team to hold off a late surging Hendrix squad.

Kyle Coulter was second on the squad in scoring with 15 points, adding eight rebounds, while point guard Caleb Banks added 13 points and four assists. Reed Cummings came off the bench for 11 points while Reagan Keogh had 10 points.

The Comets finished the outing shooting 52.5 percent (31-of-59) for the game, hitting 9-of-24 three-pointers (37.5%) and 21-of-28 free throws (75%). UTD doubled up the Warriors on the boards, out-rebounding HC, 44-22.

For Hendrix, John Ogle came off the bench for 16 points to lead three Warriors in double figures. Preston Smith was the only HC starter in double digits with 12 points while Travis Garrett finished with 11 points.

The Comets, who are now 3-0 for the fifth straight season, continue their five-game road trip Tuesday with a non-conference match up with Trinity in San Antonio. Game time is 6 p.m.
