No. 25 Comets Knock Off Unbeaten Austin College, 79-62

RICHARDSON, TX (12.02.15) - The No. 25-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team drained a season-high 11 three pointers as the Comets rolled to a 79-62 home win over previously unbeaten Austin College Wednesday in non-conference action.

The Comets (now 4-1) made two more three-point field goals against AC than they had in the previous four games combined (9), finishing the night shooting 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from long distance as a team. The Comets entered Wednesday's game shooting just 15.8 percent as a team from three-point range.

Micaela Gonzalez led three Comets in double digits as she finished the night two rebounds shy of third "double-double" of the young season. Gonzalez scored a team-high 12 points and added eight rebounds, a team-best four assists, two blocks and two steals in a solid all-around performance. Alisa Greene came off the bench for 11 points while Madison Steele finished with 10 points.

UTD got 42 points off its bench.

After falling behind the Lady Roos, 3-0, after an early three-pointer by Brianna Harvey, the Comets answered with a trey by Kelsey Scibek and never trailed again. Scibek's three-pointer sparked a 10-0 run for UTD as the Comets snagged a 13-3 advantage on a lay up by Steele with 5:47 left in the first period. AC drew within two points, 13-11, late in the first period, but a 13-0 run by the Comets to end the opening half gave UTD a comfortable 37-18 lead at the break.

The Comets would then score the first nine points of the second half as Shannon Mathis capped a 22-0 run with 7:14 left in the third frame on a three-pointer to lift UTD to a 46-18 advantage. The 28-point lead after Mathis' trey was the largest of the night for the Comets as AC clawed back late against the UTD reserves.

UTD finished the game shooting 41.4 percent (29-of-70) from the field and were 10-of-14 (71.4%) from the free-throw. The Comets held a 36-34 advantage in rebounding and forced 28 Lady Roo turnovers.

For AC (now 5-1), Kali Vittallo scored a game-high 14 points while Katie Gowdy had 13 points and Chrissy Ray had 12 points. Ray led the Lady Roos with eight rebounds.

Next up for the Comets is the start of American Southwest Conference as they visit Ozarks Saturday afternoon. Game time is 1 p.m. in Clarksville, Ark.
