Too Many Turnovers Lead To Comets' 92-55 Home Loss To No. 8 UT-Tyler

RICHARDSON, TX (01.14.16) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team committed a season-high 28 turnovers as the Comets suffered their fourth loss in five games Thursday night after a 92-55 defeat by No. 8-ranked Texas-Tyler in American Southwest Conference play.

The Comets (now 8-5, 2-3 ASC) will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon as they host LeTourneau in their final home game for the month of January. Game time is 1 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.

UTD shot 43.1 percent (22-of-51) from the field but battled from behind from the start. The Comets opened the game with a lay up by Madison Steele, but a 12-0 run by the visiting Patriots (now 14-1, 8-0 ASC) lifted UTT to a 25-11 first-quarter lead. The Patriots would finish the night 36-of-68 (52.9%) from the field, hitting 12-of-26 three-pointers (46.2%), as they would hand the Comets their worst home loss in over 13 years, a 110-49 home loss to Hardin-Simmons on Dec. 16, 2002.

Shannon Mathis, Madison Steele and Kendall Festervand each finished with a team-high 10 points as the Comets again struggled from three-point range (6-of-20, 30%) and from the free-throw line (5-of-10, 50%). Amber Terry added nine points while Nicolette Erkman added six points. Steele finished with a game-best seven rebounds.

For UTT, Makenzi May finished with a game-high 30 points, leading three players in double figures. May was 12-of-16 from the field, hitting five three pointers, after scoring 21 of her 30 points in the first half. Michelle Obach had 15 points and Alex Kochner added 14 points.
