ATLANTA, GA (03.12.17) - After a month off after playing two matches in early February, the UT Dallas men's tennis returned to the courts Sunday with a 6-3 road win over Oglethorpe to open the Comets' Spring Break trip.
The Comets (3-0) will play four more matches this week in South Carolina before returning home, starting with a pair of contests Tuesday on Hilton Head Island. UTD will next play Millsaps at 7 a.m. Tuesday before squaring off with Belhaven later in the day.
After taking doubles against the Stormy Petrels, 2-1, UTD picked up three quick singles wins to secure the road win.
Giovanni Zamboni picked up the Comets' first singles win at No. 6 , out-dueling OU's Jacob Bertram, 6-3, 6-1.
Christian Duarte would hold off Rhys Richardson, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1 singles before
Mario Jelev secured the team victory with a 6-4, 6-1, win at No. 2 over Richard Johnson.
Alberto Hernandez would add another singles win at No. 4, edging Zoe Raymond, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
In doubles play, Hernandez and
Hrudhay Ravula won at No. 2, 8-3, while
Ashwin Vaithianathan and
Eric Chen teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 3.
