Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Underwood Joins 1,000-Point Club, Comets Fall at Home to UMHB

RICHARDSON, TX (12.08.18) - Junior guard Dimitrius Underwood became the 10th-ever UT Dallas men's basketball player to obtain 1,000 career points in the Comets' 85-76 home loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon in a key American Southwest Conference crossover duel.

Underwood finished Saturday's game with eight points to hit 1,000 points exactly in his career, becoming just the second all-time junior for the Comets to reach the milestone. In addition, Underwood added five rebounds in the defeat, giving the Mesquite native 502 career boards, making him just the ninth Comet to reach that plateau. He became only the fifth UTD men's player to accomplish both feats and could potentially leave the Comets as the program's all-time leading scorer and rebounder.

The Comets (now 7-3, 3-2 ASC) got off to a strong start, securing a 46-36 lead on UMHB at the break after shooting 54.8 percent (17-of-31) from the floor in the opening half. UTD was 7-for-13 from three-point rage while holding the visiting Cru to just 37.1 percent (13-for-35) from the floor. The momentum would swing, however, early in the second half as UMHB used a 12-0 run to grab its first lead since the opening minutes of the contest when Demarius Cress drained a three-pointer with 10:46 on the clock to lift the Cru to a 56-55 lead.

UTD got the lead back on its next possession with a pair of Jalen Weber free throws, but the Cru answered with seven straight points as UMHB's Sam Moore took over. Moore finished the contest with a game-high 33 ponts, scoring 22 points over the final 20 minutes. He was 8-for-8 from the field in the second half with three three-pointers to turn the game around.

The Comets clawed back to knot the game, 70-70,  with 5:45 left on two Michael Forster free throws, but could not regain the lead. UMHB used another big run, 8-1, over the next three minutes to pull away for the nine-point win.

Curtis Allen led the Comets with 17 points, hitting 5-of-8 three-pointers, while Hans Burwitz had 16 points ans Forster added 11 points. Burwitz added a game-high 12 rebounds for his fourth 'double-double' of the season. UTD finished the day shooting 44.4 percent (24-of-54) from the field, connecting on 9-of-24 three-pointers (37.5%) and were 19-of-24 (79.2%) from the foul line.

The Comets will take off nearly two weeks before returning to the floor when they host Austin College for a non-conference affair on Friday, Dec. 21. Tip-off is 1 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
