RICHARDSON, TX (09.29.18) - The UT Dallas volleyball team improved to 6-1 in American Southwest Conference play Saturday afternoon thanks to a quick 3-0 home win over Belhaven at the UTD Activity Center.
Prior to Saturday's game with the Blazers, UTD recognized their lone senior
Sydney Riordan. Riordan would respond with a match-high 13 kills along with seven digs and two aces as he squad needed just over an hour to lock up the three-set victory.
The Comets (11-6) hit .348 as a team for the match with Riordan as the only player to top double-digit kills.
Jillian Via added seven kills, seven digs and three aces while
Allison Owen had six kills an a pair of blocks. UTD held the visiting Blazers (8-8, 1-6 ASC) to a .080 team hitting percentage as Belhaven ended the match with just 23 kills and 16 errors.
UTD returns to action Tuesday night with an ASC East match at East Texas Baptist. Match time is 7 p.m. in Marshall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Riordan came out hot with six kills in the opening set, a 25-13 victory for the Comets. UTD hit .444 in the set, committing just two errors, while collecting three aces as a squad.
- Riordan, Owen and Via each had three kills in the second set as the Comets rolled to a 25-10 victory and a 2-0 lead. Hitting .321 as a squad, UTD added four more aces.
- The Comets locked up the win with a a 25-15 win in the third set. Riordan again led UTD with four kills while Owen and Alex Nolan each had three kills. The Comets hit .297 with two more aces and five blocks in the set.
