Comets Handle Cru, 89-77, in Key ASC Cross-Division Battle

BELTON, TX (01.04.20) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team extended its winning streak to five straight games Saturday afternoon with an 89-77 road win over Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference crossover play.

The Comets improved to 9-3 overall with Saturday's victory and sit alone atop the ASC East standings, now with 3-0 league mark. UTD will look to continue its winning streak Thursday night as the Comets return to action at East Texas Baptist. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Marshall.

Senior point guard Jalen Weber scored a game-high 23 points to lead four Comets in double digits. The Comets tallied a season-high 89 points while shooting better than 50 percent for the third consecutive outing. UTD finished the win 30-of-59 (50.8%) from the field, hitting 12-of-27 (44.4%) from three-point range. The Comets have now recorded 11 or more three-pointers in three straight games as well.

The host Cru (10-2, 2-1 ASC) took early control of the contest, leading by as many as seven points on two separate occasions before UTD nabbed a 25-24 advantage after a three-pointer by Kolton Pruitt with 6:53 left before halftime. After trading leads late in the half, the Comets held a 37-33 lead at the break.

The Comets would not relinquish the lead in the second half, securing a double-digit lead early in the period and never looked back. UTD led by as many as 15 points late before settling for the 12-point victory.

Hans Burwitz added 18 points along with 10 rebounds in his third straight 'double-double' performance while Pruitt added 12 points and Xavier Ferrell had 10 points.
