RICHARDSON, TX (01.16.21) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team rebounded from its first league loss Saturday afternoon with a 62-51 home victory over LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference East Division play.

The Comets improved to 7-2 overall with Saturday's win, taking over second place in the ASC's competitive East Division at 3-1. UTD will make its first league road trip next week, visiting Louisiana College and Belhaven.

UTD led the visiting YellowJackets (now 7-2, 3-1 ASC) wire-to-wire, but had to hold off several surges throughout the contest before putting the game away late. The Comets snagged a nine-point lead early in the game, but secured just an 18-13 advantage after the opening 10 minutes of play. After a defensive second period, UTD led the YellowJackets, 28-25, at the break. Still holding a three-point cushion midway through the third, the Comets rolled off 10 straight points later in the quarter to take control of the contest, 46-33, after a Mia Rudin lay up with 2:21 left in the period. 

The YellowJackets slow chipped away at UTD's lead early in the fourth, cutting the deficit down to just four points, 55-51, with 4:49 left to play, but the Comets held LETU 0-for-5 from the field down the stretch while forcing four turnovers over the final four minutes of the game.

Raenett Hughes led all scorers with 20 points while adding 10 rebounds for her third 'double-double' of the season. Kelley Skinner and Kaitlyn Judge each added eight points.
