No. 9 Comets Celebrate Senior Night With 62-40 Win Over Ozarks

RICHARDSON, TX (02.24.21) - The No. 9-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team finished the opening half strong and dominated the final 20 minutes of the game as the Comets cruised to a 62-40 home win over Ozarks Wednesday night in American Southwest Conference East Division play.

The Comets (now 10-3, 6-2 ASC) moved into a tie for second place in the ASC's East Division with their Senior Night victory over Ozarks and will complete their season series with the Eagles Saturday afternoon in Clarksville, Ark.

With a game-high 18 points, senior guard Raenett Hughes tied the Comets' all-time scoring record, now with 1,508 career points. The College Station native has now matched former teammate Victoria Pena, who tallied that exact total during her four-year career with UTD from 2016-20. Hughes currently ranks second all-time at UTD in steals, third in rebounds and fifth in assists.

The Comets closed the second quarter on an 11-2 run, tallying the final six points of he half, to secure a 25-19 lead at the break. UTD never looked back for the remainder of the contest, grabbing its first double-digit lead at the 4:27 mark of the third quarter on a Paris Brinkley break-away lay up. The Comets led Ozarks, 43-30, after three quarters of play and outscored the Eagles, 19-10, over the final 10 minutes.

Hughes was one of four Comets to close the game with double-digit points as Brinkley and Sydney Brock each contributed 11 points and McKenzie Howard came off the bench for 10 points. UTD out-rebounded the Eagles, 47-38, and forced 19 turnovers.
