MARSHALL, TX (02.06.21) - After a strong start, the No. 10-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team managed just six field goals over the final three periods in a 59-48 road loss at No. 3-ranked East Texas Baptist Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference East Division play.
The Comets (now 8-3, 4-2 ASC) snagged a 19-12 lead over host ETBU after the first 10 minutes of play, but shot less than 15 percent from the field for the final 30 minutes in their second loss of the season to the ASC East-leading Tigers.Â
Jordan Maxwell led the Comets with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting while
Raenett Hughes added 10 points as the only other UTD player in double figures.
McKenzie Howard led the Comets with six rebounds and added a blocked shot.
The Comets led ETBU, 16-3, with 5:36 left in the opening half afterÂ
Kaitlyn Judge drained three free throws. Judge scored nine of the Comets 19 points in the first quarter as UTD was 6-for-10 as a team, hitting three three-pointers.Â
ETBU now (18-0, 10-0 ASC) completed erased the Comet lead by the 1:38 mark of the second period as Bridget Upton gave the Tigers a 25-24 lead with a lay up. The Tigers led 27-24 at the break and widened their lead to seven points, 41-34, after three quarters.
The Tigers extended their lead to double digits for the first time in the game with a Mallory Stephens three-pointer on ETBU's first possession of the fourth. ETBU would lead by as many 14 points midway through the period. The Comets would get no closer than eight points down the stretch.
