Box Score DALLAS, TX (04.29.21) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team is now just two wins away from a third league title in program history as the Comets quickly dispatched Mary Hardin-Baylor, 5-0, in the quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, Thursday night.
The Comets (now 9-8) rolled through the three doubles matches before collecting two singles matches to complete the win over the Cru (2-10) in just under two hours, played at the SMU Indoor Courts due to weather. UTD will next play Concordia Texas at 2 p.m. in the semifinals, back on the UTD campus.
The No. 3Â doubles duo of
Ritvik Ganesan and
Noah Sam was the first to complete its match as the Comets handled UMHB's Thomas Knightstep/Mark Vinson, 8-1.
Haydn Steffes and
Jed De Luna were soon to follow with their win at No. 2, cruising past the Cru's Bret Irby/Ty Marshall, 8-1. Top-flighted tandem of
Ashwin Vaithianathan and
John Edwards completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Alejandro Omana/Cody Aaron.
Sam opened singles play for the Comets with a 6-0, 6-0, win over John Swords at No. 5 to lift UTD to a 4-0 cushion before Ganesan sealed the team victory with a 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 3 over Irby.
Vaithianathan (No. 1), Edwards (No. 2) and De Luna (No. 4) were each leading by a set when the match concluded while Maura Tejada was up 3-2 at No. 6 at the time.
