RICHARDSON, TX (02.10.22) - Will Isaac's only points of the night came on two free throws with 4.8 seconds left in the contest as the UT Dallas men's basketball team rallied for a 61-60 home win over Hardin-Simmons Thursday night in ASC play.
The Comets (14-6, 10-5 ASC) climbed into third place in the ASC after Thursday's victory with just three games left in the regular season. UTD returns to action Saturday afternoon for both Homecoming and Senior Day festivities as the Comets host McMurry. Tip-off is 3 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
The two longtime rivals traded leads six times over the final 11 minutes of the contest with the final change coming on Isaac's free shots to lift the Comets to a second straight victory. UTD led the Cowboys by 12 points, 42-30, with just over 15 minutes to play before HSU rolled off 14 straight points to grab a slim two-point advantage four minutes later.
Caden McKenzie stopped the surged with a three-pointer with 10:05 remaining to give the Comets back a lead before HSU responded and widened a lead to as many as four points with just under seven minutes on the clock.
The Comets regained a 55-54 lead with 4:39 left after a
Nick Donnelly three-pointer and then added a
Kameron Pruitt layup thanks to a Cowboy turnover to extend its lead to three points. But, back-to-back buckets by HSU again gave the Cowboys the lead with 17 seconds remaining. After two missed game-winning buckets by the Comets in the final seconds, Isaac was fouled on UTD's second offensive board and stepped up for his only points of the night secure the victory. HSU had a chance for a game-winner but a
Luke Kiser steal on the final Cowboy possession ended the contest.
Pruitt led all scorers with 24 points as he was the only Comet to reach double digits in the win. Pruitt was 12-of-18 from the field and added 10 rebounds for his team-leading seventh 'double-double' of the season.
James Curtis and
Kolton Pruitt each finished with seven points while Curtis also had 10 rebounds. Kiser led the Comets with three assists and six steals.
