Comets Edged by No. 15 Mary Hardin-Baylor in Return Home

RICHARDSON, TX (02.06.22) - After four straight road games, the UT Dallas women's basketball team returned home for the first time since mid-January, dropping a 55-46 decision to No. 15-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor in ASC play.

The Comets (10-5, 9-3 ASC) briefly slipped back to third place in the ASC standings with Sunday's loss, but have a chance to bounce back Monday night and snap a two-game losing skid with a 5:30 p.m. ASC home date with Concordia Texas.

Trailing by a single point, 40-39, heading to the final period, the Comets managed just two field goals over the final 10 minutes of play as UMHB pulled away late thanks to free throws. Both teams clamped down defensively in the contest, with neither squad shooting better than 32 percent from the field on the night. After a early bucket by the Cru to open the fourth, Jordan Maxwell drew UTD back to within a single point with two free shots with 9:11 to play. However, the Comets their next eight field goal attempts UMHB slowly extended its lead.

Paris Kiser and Anna Jefferson-Polk each finished with a team-high nine points while Michaela Walker came off the bench for seven points. McKenzie Howard sparked UTD with a game-high eight rebounds while Jordan Rudd dished out a team-best four assists.

The Comets took early control of the contest, leading by as many as seven points, 11-4, midway through the first quarter after a Walker jumper. But, UMHB ended the period on a 10-1 run to take a 14-12 lead into the second. The Cru widened their lead to four points, 25-21, at the break.
