RICHARDSON, TX (02.08.22) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team officially opens its spring season Saturday when the Comets host Austin College in a non-conference dual. Saturday's match will be one of many out-of-league contests that should prepare the Comets for a potential run at a third-ever ASC title in 2022.

The Comets were tabbed the overwhelming favorite to repeat as ASC East champions this spring, but UTD has it sights one the league's tournament title in 2022 after a disappointing loss in the conference semifinals a year ago.
UTD returns five players from last year's squad that posted a 9-9 overall record and claimed the ASC East title with a 4-0 divisional mark.Â
Ashwin Vaithianathan leads the pack of returners for the Comets this spring after collecting All-ASC for the fourth time in his career in 2021.
John Edwards was also an All-ASC pick and listed on the ASC All-Tournament Team last season for UTD. Also returning from last year's squad are

Ritvik Ganesan and
Noah Sam.
Saturday's contest with Austin College will be the first of eight consecutive non-conference matches before the Comets open ASC East play on Mar. 25 at East Texas Baptist. UTD will then have home league matches with LeTourneau (Apr. 2) and Belhaven (Apr. 9) before closing divisional play at Ozarks (Apr. 15). The ASC Tournament will be held May 5-7 at the West Division champion.
