UTD Falls Just Short of Upsetting #18/24 UMHB

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team nearly defeated #18/24 Mary Hardin-Baylor in a 49-53 losing effort at the UTD Activity Center Saturday afternoon.

The American Southwest Conference contest featured eight ties and six lead changes with six points being the biggest advantage for either squad.

The Cru (11-3, 6-1 ASC) led 14-12 after the first quarter. The Comets (8-6, 4-3 ASC) rallied in the second and took a 31-30 advantage into the break. The teams once again were nearly even in the third with UMHB leading 43-42 after three quarters.

Tied 46-46 with 4:20 remaining, UTD freshman Kyra Samuels made three free throws over the next minute to give the host a three-point lead. Arieona Rosborough and Jaycie Brisco made back-to-back buckets for the Cru to go up 50-49 with 1:34 left. After a missed basket and a pair of missed free throws, Rosborough gave UMHB a three-point lead with a layup with 23.4 seconds reamaining. The Comets missed another shot and fouled Ashley Faux who went 1-for-2 at the line to give the Cru the final four-point victory.

UT Dalls shot 31.4 percent (16-for-51) from the field, 4-for-15 from three-point territory and 13-of-19 at the free throw line. They also recorded 35 rebounds, nine assists, four blocks, seven steals and 13 turnovers.

UMHB shot 32.3 percent (21-for-65) overall, 2-for-14 from outside and 9-of-18 at the line to go with 48 boards, 14 assists, three blocks, eight steals and 14 turnovers. 

UT Dallas Notes
- Junior guard Blythe Williams scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 35 minutes of play.
- Sophomore Trystan Clark tied her career-highs with 11 points and six boards. 
- Cierra Trigg came up with eight points and a pair of steals while taking two charges.
- Senior forward Diane Hurst recorded four points, four rebounds and a career-high four assists.
- Freshman center Kyra Samuels added four points, three rebounds and a season-best two blocks.

Mary Hardin-Baylor Notes
- Rosborough, the reigning ASC Freshman of the Year, led the Cru with 16 points and nine rebounds.
- Faux scored 10 points to go with eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
- Weade Adeleke added five points and eight boards.
- Payton Hicks had three steals and four assists.
